Thank you so much
for your interest in the work at Evangel
Hospital. There are a number of medical supply items which
would be very helpful like suture and ACE elastic bandages. If you have
something you think we might like but are unsure, please feel free to
contact me before sending it. Sometimes we are sent things which we can't
use (like cardiac bypass equipment) and we still have to pay the excess
baggage fees to get them there.
The fastest way
to get things to us is by sending it to our SIM Charlotte, NC office with
the following address:
EVANGEL
HOSPITAL
c/o SIM-USA
14830 Choate
Circle
Charlotte,
NC 28273
(704) 588-4300
They will then send
the item as excess baggage with the next traveler. We can
sometimes send things by air freight but it is more expensive,
slower and involves more paperwork. Air freight is best for
large or heavy items and non-urgent supplies.
The size and
weight are also important. To go excess air baggage it must
weigh less than 70 pounds packed in the box. It must also
adhere to the airline dimension regulations (62"
L+W+H).
We appreciate
your help in covering the costs to send the item to the
Charlotte office (for air excess baggage items. We then pay
for the air excess charges (~$130/box), unless you would like
to help us with that as well.
Here is a
checklist:
1. Do they need this item in a third world
mission hospital? If you're not sure contact us.
2. Is it
urgently needed or can it wait a few months? If urgent send to
Charlotte to be sent by air or if non-urgent and large/heavy,
ask about sending it by air freight.
3. Does it weight less
than 70 pounds? If so, send to Charlotte, otherwise ask about
sending it by air freight.
4. When you send things, please
clearly label them for EVANGEL HOSPITAL and include in the box
a list of the items and who sent them. Send a copy of the
contents to the SIM Shipping Office in Charlotte as well and
notify us the item is on the way.
Finally, I want
to let you know how much I appreciate your willingness to help
us in our ministry in Nigeria. Every suture and every machine
is greatly appreciated by us and our
patients.
Sincerely,
William Ardill,
M.D.
