ECWA

Evangelical Church of West Africa

The churches that resulted from the work of the early SIM missionaries came together and formed an indigenous body known as the Evangelical Church of West Africa (ECWA).

In 1976, ECWA accepted responsibility for the SIM ministries in Nigeria. Their ministries today include theological education, Christian education, media, medicine, rural development, People Oriented Development, literature publishing and distribution and church planting.

The missionary arm of ECWA is called the Evangelical Missionary Society (EMS). There are now over 1200 missionaries from EMS going to various unreached areas of Nigeria and other West African countries.

There are 107 unreached people groups in Nigeria. SIM is working in partnership with ECWA, helping to train leadership as well as aiding in various outreach ministries.

Today ECWA is SIM's primary church partner in Nigeria. SIM missionaries are working in many ECWA ministries and unique SIM ministries.
