The Transition House was
started to give children off the streets an opportunity to live in a
safe home with a bed, clothes, food and the love of Christian foster
parents. Many come from abusive homes where they have been
neglected. Some who express an interest in Christianity face severe
persecution or death. Most are malnourished and have parasites,
malaria and rashes.
They are started on a self-paced literacy
program and taught the basics of living the Christian life. The
house is in a small community in the outskirts of Jos so the
children learn to integrate in community and local church life and
activities.
Prior to accepting a child into the Transition
House, an attempt is made to contact their parents or guardians. If
they agree, the children are brought into the House with the intent
of discipling and training them to be reintegrated back into their
own homes or a foster Christian home.
Most come suspicious
and fearful. They have highly developed survival skills to live on
the streets and it takes a long time to win their trust and
confidence. We are thrilled at the transformation we have seen
spiritually, emotionally and physically in the children who have
come through the Transition House.
The House can handle 8
children and is staffed by 5 Nigerian Christians who are their
foster parents, role models and teachers. |
