Healing

Thank you for your prayers, e-mails and letters since the death of our daughter Aimee.  We have been comforted and encouraged by the expressions of sympathy from all over the world.   Although the balance of summer months were difficult for a variety of other reasons, we are doing better and are grateful for God's healing in our hearts. Healing is defined as the process of a return to health.  We are still in the process and appreciate your continued prayers.

Heather  Marie  Anna

Marie celebrated her 7th birthday September 3 and has started losing her teeth! She loves second grade and is doing especially well in her spelling and reading. She is growing in every way and we are delighted with her effort and attitude. Although she suffered the loss of several important friends this summer, she is also doing well and is developing new friendships.

Heather and Anna had their 5th birthday October 19. It was hilarious listening in on their discussions about their guest list. It seems the quality of the gift was an important criteria for an invitation. They are learning to ride their bikes without training wheels and are doing well in their reading as well.
Bay Area Community Church in Annapolis, Maryland sent a team of three to visit us in October. We had a  wonderful time showing John, Mark and Sandy our home, the various ministries in which we are involved and the sites of Jos! They were a great encouragement to us and we trust the trip increased their vision and understanding of the growing church in Nigeria. We want to also thank the many who prayed for their visas, their trip and for the many gifts they brought from friends all over. Care packages go a long way toward healing!
Bill is enjoying teaching the book of Acts from a missiological perspective to the students at the Nigeria Evangelical Missionary Institute on Thursday evenings.  Dorothy loves going to the ECWA Women's Fellowship meetings and it is helping her Hausa as well. She is hoping they develop an interest in helping the children and women who come to Gidan Bege.
We wanted to give you an update on the Gidan Bege Building Project (NG 96909).  We are thrilled that we have received $120,000.  The remaining balance is $10,000.  Thank you all who gave so generously and sacrificially to help us purchase this fantastic facility for the many ministries of Gidan Bege staff.  The outreach now includes the following: outreach to street children with teaching and feeding once a week at Gidan Bege; ministry to blind and beggar women and their children on Wednesdays with Bible and vocational teaching, hair plaiting and food; Bible study weekly with crippled boys and wheel barrow boys and a rent-to-own program for the wheel barrow boys; a deaf Bible study fellowship and literacy and vocational training.  Thanks for your ongoing support of this ministry (NG 96041).  We marvel at God's provision of dedicated, visionary and compassionate staff.  We were also excited to hear that several ECWA churches in other cities in Nigeria are interested in starting outreach ministries similar to Gidan Bege.  We look forward to the arrival of Peter and Miriam Fretheim in January to provide necessary mentoring leadership.

Paul Ushie is a general practice consultant working at Evangel Hospital.  Since 1994 Paul and his wife have been using their annual vacation to go as medical missionaries to reach the unreached pagan and Moslem people in the far hills of eastern Nigeria.  On one trip an elderly Islamic spiritual leader prayed to receive Jesus as his Savior.  Recently a 31 year old Fulani ushie.jpg (602793 bytes)convert who was facing persecution and a death sentence came to Jos to live with Paul's family. He had end-stage kidney failure and after a few weeks went to be with his new Father in heaven.   Through medical care and prayer, Paul's team has gone into areas of Satan's stronghold and the light of Jesus' love has broken through into many hearts.  We have started an SIM project to help Paul and other Evangel Hospital doctors with medical missionary projects.  One hundred years ago God opened the northern part of Nigeria to the gospel through SIM medical missionaries and He is doing the same today.  We are encouraging trips to the inner city underserved areas as well as involving our general practice doctors in training on these missionary trips.  If you are interested in helping towards this project, is is NG96500.  As an extension of our medical missionary effort, we are very excited to see this initiative to expand the Kingdom of God into the heart of darkness.

Once again, thank you for your faithful prayers, letters and e-mails.

Bill, Dorothy, Marie, Heather and Anna Ardill
