Bill's primary responsibility is to supervise the surgery department at Evangel Hospital. There is a residency program at Evangel to train Nigerian physicians to be family practitioners so Bill has the privilege to teaching them basic surgical skills. One exciting aspect of the outreach at Evangel is the VVF Program. At Evangel, we offer free surgery for these unfortunate women with childbirth related injuries called vesicovaginal fistula (VVF). Many of them trust Christ for their salvation during their hospitalization at Evangel. Bill has been involved in helping coordinate this outreach program. In August 1995, Dorothy began an outreach to
street
children who were so hungry and starved for love and attention. Some
wore rags and many had malaria, worms, rashes and other ailments. Now
about 150 children are coming every Thursday to the urban ministry center
for rice and beans and love. There are also about 50 blind and beggar
women coming to the Thursday lunch. Bill teaches at a local school for training missionaries called the Nigerian Evangelical Missionary Institute and he teaches Bible to the seniors at Hillcrest School. Bill started a prosthetics workshop at Gidan Bege. Using PVC pipe and rubber feet imported from India we have been able to offer low cost artificial arms and legs. In 2004 because of our concern about the problem of abortion in Nigeria and the lack of counseling services, we began a crisis pregnancy ministry called ProLife Evangel. If you are interested in more information about any of these ministries, please feel free to contact us by email.
