ProLife Evangel

(A crisis pregnancy ministry of Evangel Hospital)

A precious life rescued!

Although abortion is illegal in Nigeria, a recent survey among young people in Nigerian churches revealed the shocking fact that 26% of the girls had been pregnant at one time and 24% had already had an abortion.

In desperation many girls and women with an unwanted pregnancy resort to risky abortions. The complications can be devastating and include infertility, pelvic organ injury, intestinal injuries and death.

At Evangel Hospital for years women have come asking for an abortion. Our physicians and pastors had little to offer except for a brief counseling session and little material support.

At the same time we have seen many couples who have been unable to have children plead with us for a child to raise as their own.

In November 2004 we held the inaugural Crisis Pregnancy Center meeting and 70 Nigerians came to learn about how to be involved in rescuing babies from the abortion industry in Nigeria. We then formed a Planning Committee for “Pro-Life Evangel” and held a counselor training workshop in February 2005. Our goal is to help women with unwanted pregnancies or those who have had an abortion. 85% of women who intend to have an abortion change their mind after seeing a sonogram image of their baby. We are grateful that a sister center in Texas donated a sonogram unit to our ministry. In March 2006 we moved into larger offices at Evangel Hospital to meet the growth of the ministry. In March 2006 we also rented property for housing and counseling needy mothers.
Our services include free pregnancy testing for women in crisis, counseling and pastoral care, child-birth classes and doula services during labor and delivery, adoption services, support of the new mother and baby with supplies and clothes, housing for needy mothers and post-abortion counseling.   Please pray along with us for this exciting ministry to help desperate women and rescue unwanted babies in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
